It's that time of the year again! The SWE Girls' Engineering Exploration (GEE) event is right around the corner and looking for volunteers the day of the event. The focus of GEE is to provide girls from Detroit Public Schools (Grades 4-6) the opportunity to experience a day filled with activities that relate to the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Most importantly, the goal is for the girls to have fun while they learn and to consider these subject for their future career. Please consider donating your time for this extraordinary event. It takes place on Saturday, March 2, 2013, from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Wayne State University in Detroit.
If you are interesting in volunteering* or mentoring** or would like more information, please contact Kara Martini at swegeevolunteer@gmail.com .
*Volunteers will be assigned to various activities on the day of the event. These tasks include: set-up/breakdown, registration, food, activity helpers, runners, etc. Volunteers are critical to making sure the event runs smoothly.
**Mentors will be assigned a small group of girls to work with and to experience the planned activities for the day. Mentors tend to have the most rewarding experience because they have the most interaction with the girls.
