Below is a list of all the awards that are available to SWE-Detroit members. You can find the nomination form at http://www.swedetroit.org under membership. Not every award is given every year, so this is a chance to recognize our truly outstanding members! The awards will be given out at our annual awards banquet on Thursday June 6, 2013 at the Skyline Club in Southfield, MI!
SWE-Detroit Section Award Descriptions
Student Services Savvy Award
The Student Services Savvy Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to Student Services within SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit Student Services programs.
Professional Development Excellence Award
The Professional Development Excellence Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to Professional Development within SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit Professional Development programs.
Membership Award
The Membership Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to Membership within SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit Membership activities.
Treasurer Award
The Treasurer Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member or company who has made an outstanding contribution to finances within SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit finance activities.
Communicator Award
The Communicator Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to communication within SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit communication activities.
National Contributions Award
The National Contributions Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to national activities for SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to national activities.
Key Contributor Award
The Key Contributor Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit.
Consistent Contributor Award
The Consistent Contributor Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution over a significant period of time to SWE-Detroit. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the sustained contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit.
Community Service Award
The Community Service Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to community service activities for SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to community service activities for SWE-Detroit. Participation in other community organization is highly desirable.
Volunteer Award
The Volunteer Award is presented to a SWE-Detroit Section member who has made an outstanding contribution to as a volunteer within SWE-Detroit during the fiscal year. Nominees will be judged based on the significance of the achievements cited on behalf of the nominee and on the contributions of the nominee to SWE-Detroit. Section Executive Council members are not eligible for this award. The Membership Committee will nominate the top three (non-EC) members in the incentive program.
Technical Award
The Technical Award honors a SWE-Detroit Section member who has been actively engaged in engineering and demonstrated outstanding technical performance. Participation in technical societies is highly desirable. Letters of reference should come from 1) the nominating Society member and 2) someone familiar with the nominee’s engineering experience. Nominees will be judged on the basis of their technical achievements.
New Engineer Award
The New Engineer Award recognizes a SWE-Detroit Section member with under ten years of on-the-job engineering experience who has demonstrated significant contributions to engineering. The intent of this award is to recognize and encourage the efforts of less experienced female engineers in their professional careers. Nominees will be assessed by their contributions to SWE especially to the Detroit Section (40%), community involvement (20%) and demonstration of a good blend of both strategic leadership and technical innovation(40%), two of the primary skills for excellence in engineering.
