Volunteer Opportunity - Maker Faire

Are you interested in volunteering with SWE Detroit on outreach projects? If so, we have a great opportunity for you! SWE Detroit always hosts a booth at Maker Faire (July 25-26^th), and we are currently kicking off the Planning Committee for the event. Please read below for info on our upcoming planning meeting and the event details.

 Planning Meeting

When: Wednesday, July 1^st at 6pm

Where: 10490 Hart Ave, Huntington Woods (Ashley Lesser’s house)

What: Kick-off planning activities and logistics for event. Subsequent meetings to follow as needed.

Detroit Maker Faire

When: Saturday July 25^th and Sunday July 26^th

Where: The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI

What is Maker Faire? Well I’m glad you asked!  Maker Faire is an award winning, family friendly event celebrating technology, education, science, arts, crafts, engineering, food, sustainability, and more. Maker Faire has become part of pop-culture, a place for experiential marketing, debuting new technologies and inventions, and celebrating geekdom. Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers.  They are of all ages and backgrounds. Volunteering with SWE Detroit: Every year SWE Detroit hosts an activity at our booth at the fair.  In the past, we have done a bridge-building event that the kids just love!  If you are interested, there are two different options for ways you can volunteer with SWE Detroit:

(1) Planning:  Several volunteers are needed to help plan the event, build our project, and coordinate details.  The commitment would be ~2-3 meetings total and minimal email coordination in the months leading up to the event.  We are also looking for an individual(s) who are interested in learning the role/responsibilities of the SWE Detroit lead for Maker Faire at this special event.

(2) Day-of fair volunteers: Several volunteers needed throughout the day on both Saturday July 25^th and Sunday July 26^th to work the SWE booth and activity. Shift schedules TBD.
