SAVE THE DATE:
Maker Faire
July 25th & 26th
At The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI
What is Maker Faire? Well
I’m glad you asked! Maker
Faire is an award winning, family friendly event celebrating
technology, education, science, arts, crafts, engineering, food,
sustainability, and more. Maker Faire has become part of pop-culture, a place
for experiential marketing, debuting new technologies and inventions, and
celebrating geekdom. Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell)
on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and
resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement. It’s a place
where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.
Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to
garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker
Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community. http://www.makerfairedetroit.com/
Volunteering with SWE Detroit: Every
year SWE Detroit hosts an activity at our booth at the fair. In the past,
we have done a bridge-building event that the kids just love! If you are
interested, there are two different options for ways you can volunteer with SWE
Detroit:
(1) Planning: Several volunteers are
needed to help plan the event, build our project, and coordinate details.
The commitment would be ~2-3 meetings total and minimal email coordination in
the months leading up to the event (meeting times TBD). We are also looking for
an individual(s) who are interested in learning the role/responsibilities of
the SWE Detroit lead for Maker Faire, for leadership succession planning for
SWE’s participation at this special event.
(2) Day-of fair volunteers: Several volunteers
needed throughout the day on both Saturday July 25th and Sunday
July 26th to work the SWE booth and activity. Shift schedules
TBD.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact
Anne Dancy at anne.dancy@fcagroup.com or 214-244-2875.
