What: Think Like an Engineer Day for Girl Scouts

When: Saturday, January 20 from 8 AM - 1:30 PM
Details: Share your experiences with Girl Scouts as they are introduced to engineering at Think Like an Engineer Day and help them venture for a Journey badge. SWE-Detroit needs at least 5 volunteers: 1 person that works in the automotive industry, 1 person that has a civil engineering related occupation, 2 volunteers who can bring and discuss a engineering related project - this can be a science project you did in 5th grade, 1 volunteer to take photos using a provided camera.

Michigan Regional Future City Competition

What: Michigan Regional Future City Competition
Where: Suburban Collection Showplace (46100 Grand River, Novi, MI)
When: Monday, January 22 from 8 AM - 12 PM; 1 person to stay to present the SWE Best Communications Award from 2 - 3 PM
Details: This year’s theme is "The Age-Friendly City." The challenge asks participants to identify an age-related challenge that exists in today’s urban environments and engineer two innovative solutions that allow their future city’s senior citizens to be as active and independent as they want to be. They will hold a Judges Orientation over breakfast and then the Place Judges and the Special Award Judges will visit with the student teams, and submit their results by 11:30 am.
