As I am writing this blog post, International Women’s Day is ending. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could get the remaining $3800 in the next few months? We are getting so close to having SWE’s first endowed scholarship for women pursuing a STEM career via Community College!! I think Josie would be so excited that she helped inspire this scholarship and be touched by all the people who contributed: from spreading the word to donating to the cause and getting other people to donate. Please help us keep the momentum going and blaze another trail for other women to become engineers.

For more details about the scholarship and other programs honoring Josie, please see our other blog posts and check back every few months to see our progress on the SWE Detroit Online Blog.

Separate from SWE Detroit’s Member Solicitation Program, the following categories created based on Josie’s favorite hiking trails* will be used to acknowledge the support of those who wish to contribute to the scholarship. Contributions will be tracked and your level will be determined based on accumulated contributions received by SWE Detroit.
Kalalau Trail $ 1000 +
Jackson Hole $  750 to $ 999
Mount Roberts $  500 to $ 749
Dog Mountain     $  250 to $ 499
Highline Loop $    50 to $ 249
*See information about the hiking trails and their significance to Josie & Pat on the blog.

Our programs and services are enhanced and energized by your support of SWE Detroit and SWE’s mission. Remember your donation is fully deductible under US Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3). Please contact us via email at swe_detroit@swe.org if you have any questions.

GEE Volunteers needed!

Calling all volunteers!

The Society of Women in Engineering (SWE) Detroit Section is sponsoring their annual Girls' Engineering Exploration (GEE) Day on Saturday, March 17, 2018 and needs your help!

This full-day of interactive workshops and demonstrations will be held at the Michigan Science Center and aims to expose 4th-6th grade girls to various fields of engineering and technology.

There are two ways you can support:

1. Mentor: The girls will be divided into groups of 4-5 to facilitate their engagement as well as maximize their workshop experience. Each GEE Mentor is responsible for monitoring their group throughout the day in addition to encouraging participation and enthusiasm as the girls learn about engineering. Mentors must be available for the full day from 8AM - 4PM.

2. Flex volunteer: Flex volunteers support and maintain the GEE event flow throughout the day. They help with registration check-in, coat check, lunch distribution, activity support, room set-up/break-down, and more.  Flex volunteers can choose to be present for any of the three time slots: the full day (8AM - 4PM), morning (8AM - 12PM), or afternoon (12PM - 4PM).

If you are interested in volunteering for either of these positions, please fill out this Google form by Sunday, February 25
