Open SWE Detroit Positions for FY16

Interested in becoming more involved with SWE?

We have open positions to fill for this Fiscal Year 16 – which runs from now until June 30th 2016.

Below are the positions available.  Please let me know if you are interested or would like any more
information.

I’m Jessica Swan, the FY16 SWE-D President, and my email is JLENGWIS@GMAIL.COM

Looking forward to having you on our team!

Position: President Elect

Description: Learn what is involved in the president position and become SWE-D president in FY17. This position is for members who have held a VP Office before and are currently involved in SWE-Detroit.

Position: Professional Development Events Chair (PD Events)

Description:  Do you like planning and organizing fun events?  This position could be for you!  PD Events organizes monthly events for SWE Detroit between September and May.  Events may also be done on a bi-monthly basis, or as the chair’s schedule permits.  PD Events organizes the topic, speakers, location, RSVPs and food for each month’s meeting.  Event topics should vary month to month (be creative!), covering topics such as work/life balance, professional development, technical topics, local industry tours and other events.  They will also work with VP of Membership to organize the September Kick-Off meeting.

Position: Publicity Chair

Description: Do you enjoy social media and want to tell the world about SWE-D’s upcoming events?  This is a great position for someone getting started with SWE.  You will be in charge of publicizing upcoming SWE events and be the primary publicity and social media contact.  We currently use email lists, Facebook, Instagram, Linked In, Blog and our Website to disseminate information.  In this position, you would also help design and send out postcards to our membership for our September kick off, Professional Development Conference and June SWE Awards Banquet.

Position: Fund Development Chair

Description: This chair is responsible for planning 1-2 fundraising events for our scholarship program and for sending out a yearly member donation solicitation letter.  Coordinate a tried-and-true fundraising event (bowling, etc.) or come up with an event that is completely your own.  You may also help with finding Corporate Sponsors, and creating/selling SWE-D merchandise.

Volunteers Needed - Maker Faire

Join the Planning Committee for this year's SWE booth at Maker Faire Detroit!  In the past, we have made "slime" out of borax and white glue, and held a bridge-building competition with straws and straight pins.  The time commitment is expected to be 1-2 meetings, to design outreach materials, build displays, and plan the activity.

If you're interested in getting involved, please RSVP to swemakerfaire@gmail.com and fill out the following scheduling poll: http://doodle.com/9qnt36zmz3sy8x8w

We are especially looking for those who would be interested in learning the role/responsibilities of the SWE Detroit lead for Maker Faire, to continue SWE’s participation at this special event in future years.

P.S.  You don't need to be available for the Faire on July 25-26 to participate in the planning!

What is Maker Faire? Well I’m glad you asked!  Maker Faire is an award winning, family friendly event celebrating technology, education, science, arts, crafts, engineering, food, sustainability, and more. Maker Faire has become part of pop-culture, a place for experiential marketing, debuting new technologies and inventions, and celebrating geekdom. Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker Movement.  It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers.  They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.  http://www.makerfairedetroit.com/

Volunteer Opportunity - Maker Faire

Are you interested in volunteering with SWE Detroit on outreach projects? If so, we have a great opportunity for you! SWE Detroit always hosts a booth at Maker Faire (July 25-26th), and we are currently kicking off the Planning Committee for the event. Please read below for info on our upcoming planning meeting and the event details.
 Planning Meeting
When: Wednesday, July 1st at 6pm

Volunteering with SWE Detroit: Every year SWE Detroit hosts an activity at our booth at the fair.  In the past, we have done a bridge-building event that the kids just love!  If you are interested, there are two different options for ways you can volunteer with SWE Detroit:
(1) Planning:  Several volunteers are needed to help plan the event, build our project, and coordinate details.  The commitment would be ~2-3 meetings total and minimal email coordination in the months leading up to the event.  We are also looking for an individual(s) who are interested in learning the role/responsibilities of the SWE Detroit lead for Maker Faire at this special event.
(2) Day-of fair volunteers: Several volunteers needed throughout the day on both Saturday July 25th and Sunday July 26th to work the SWE booth and activity. Shift schedules TBD.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, please contact Anne at anne.dancy@fcagroup.com or 214-244-2875.
