Volunteers Needed - Michigan Science Center

The Michigan Science Center is offering two volunteer opportunities to encourage those excited about science and engineering to give back to the community.  There are three different ways in which you can volunteer.  Please contact Alison Chludzinski (alison.chludzinski@mi-sci.org) if you are interested.

Pi Society Docent Program
Are you an engineer, doctor, physicist, biologist or educator—past, present, or future—with a passion for science and a willingness to share that enthusiasm with others? Then you may be an ideal candidate for the Pi Society, a group of docents who conduct demonstrations, lead tours and explain exhibits to visitors to the Michigan Science Center. Pi Society docents receive specialized training in the one or more of the exhibit areas including: Waves + Vibrations, Matter + Energy, Motion, Space Science, United States Steel Fun Factory, Life Sciences and temporary exhibits.
Pi Society docents should:
  • Be available to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours per month
  • Have a strong science or engineering background
  • Have a bachelors degree in a science field or be working on one
Newton Society Program
Do you like science but don’t have a background in it? Or, are you interested in helping behind-the-scenes? Then the Newton Society might be the perfect place for you. Newton Society volunteers fill a variety of roles including assisting with clerical projects and other administrative projects.
Newton Society volunteers receive on-the-job training.
Newton Society volunteers should:
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be available to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours per month
Galileo Society Program
Don’t have a lot of time? Enjoy meeting people? The Galileo Society might be what you are looking for in a volunteer program. The Galileo Society is a special core of volunteers that fill a variety of roles at our special rental or outreach events.
Galileo Society volunteers receive on-the-job-training.
Galileo Society volunteers should:
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be available to volunteer on an as needed basis

All volunteers must submit a complete application, be interviewed and must provide information for a security background check.
All volunteers receive special benefits including invitations to special recognition events, free general admission and discounts.
